Visit Mission Local to see my drawings of the San Francisco Small Business Commission. This art-as-journalism is the first in a series of six where I’ll observing (and drawing) a public meeting on behalf of this distinguished non-profit news site.
I was inspired to approach Mission Local with this idea after attending (and drawing) their “Drawing Outside the Lines: Art, Activism, and Journalism” event. You can see my reasoning around this practice in my “The Artistic Inquiry Don’t Stop” painting.
This isn’t the first time I’ve had my art in Mission Local. You can see my drawing of a San Francisco Mime Troupe Show and a painting of Bernal Heights from 25th Street and Mission illustrating stories in 2012. They also covered my art show at Supervisor David Campos’ office in 2014 and I made the paper as part of their coverage of the SF Beautiful’s Muni Art program in 2015.
Watch the pages of Mission Local for more art-as-journalism experiments as I bring attention to the work that people are doing to shape policy with their ideas.
