The Word Mayonnaise
acrylic and collage on canvas, 9” x 12”, 2020
While reading an old family copy of Trout Fishing in America, by Richard Brautigan, the book began falling apart. So I collaged pages from the book onto canvases and let that inspire several paintings.
On the second-to-last page of the book, Brautigan writes, “Expressing a human need, I always wanted to write a book that ended with the word Mayonnaise.” On the next page, in “The Mayonaise Chapter,” the author fulfills his own wish. Much of this text is visible in this painting.
