“A Place of Her Own” knows how to use art

Art can be useful.

Yes, it can be entertaining and pleasing and beautiful - but that just scratches the surface of what can be done when we really tap into our creativity.

One of the best examples of this can be seen in the work of “A Place of Her Own.” This workshop program was created by artist Cynthia Tom who now has help from Ahran Lee and other graduates.

“Place” is a series of workshops that guide womxn of color through a series of experiences to help them heal from trauma and release themselves from harmful patterns through the process of creating art. Pain becomes beauty, heartache becomes resilience, participants gain confidence and power as creators and leaders.

I wanted to learn more, so I watched their latest artist talk video (see below) and drew each of the presenting artists.
