Drawings from Summer Concerts

I’m always taking my sketchbook with me to see concerts. In the last few months, I’ve seen some great shows.

I got in line early to see three performances at Stern Grove. Andrew St. James opened for Lyle Lovett and his Big Band - who delivered a surprisingly intense groove.

Bob Mould opened for Patti Smith and her group. At this show, if felt like we were part of a supernatural ceremony being conducted by Patti Smith, the sorcerer.

James Wavey and Shannon and the Clams kicked off the Due South Festival at Jerry Garcia Amphitheater in Maclaren Park, which was delightful.

The Flaming Lips brought sheer joy to the Stern Grove stage for the final show there of the summer.

Man in glasses (Todd) is on left holding a sketchbook next to a canvas, Jessica Jirsa flashing a peace sign, and Selina Lee wearing a hat and sunglasses with a sketchbook.

When you bring a sketchbook to the concert and your friends from City Art Cooperative Gallery are there with their art supplies.

Four bands played at the 20th Annual Cowgirlpalooza show on Labor Day at El Rio bar, and I loved every second of it. At that last show I had the added benefit of seeing Jessica Jirsa and Selina Lee, two fellow artists of the City Art Cooperative Gallery. We were all making art - Selina and I sketching while Jirsa set up her portable easy and made an oil painting of the event!
